Adrian's Testing at Yale - Day 1
Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 4:24PM Adrian has just began the first round of testing in the research project, after about 30 minutes of preparation that included gluing on his EEG 'cap' with lots of sensors in it. He will wear this cap that is attached to an EEG machine that constantly monitors his brain wave activity. In this study testing, he will also lay perfectly still in an MRI machine that will take multiple images of his brain. He will do this for 10 minutes at a time with a short break in between. The researchers will have him look at different things and respond to them, watch things, listen to things, etc., all to stimulate different parts of his brain. They will then document the brain wave activity including all seizures that occur. We were asked to take Adrian off some of his seizure meds for the study, so we have already observed more seizures than normal. The fact that we can notice them easier indicates they are lasting longer and possibly happening more frequently. The tests today will last around 3 hours, as well as the tests tomorrow morning. We hope to have some pictures from the actual MRI testing soon. We are not allowed to be in the testing center with Adrian. So, Becky and I are sitting in a waiting room just outside and down the hall, trying to keep busy. I will post more later about the study and any new pictures.
Adrian is tired but ready to go for testing.
